May 2nd «International day against bullying»
To prevent or identify every kind of violence against children and adolescents on time, no matter in which sort of environment they occur, is to protect integrally and make sure human rights are being respected, and we should all take a stand towards this, from every role we have as adults.
In times of confinement, when educative centers are closing, this type of conducts can materialize in a different way but they won’t lose their psico-emotional damage range.
Interpersonal violence, violence amongst mates, must be understood in a systemic way, integrated to a series of violences that are constantly being produced in society. Social factors, economical factors, political factors, etc., are changing daily generating situations of poverty, exclusion, discrimination, malnourishment, and different possibilities of access to goods and services.
This structural unevenness, violent; and only if it’s denaturalized, reacting towards it, putting situations into words, screams, a voice, social demand, it could be fought in order to transform it.
It is also with words how we can identify and respond towards its emergency.
Words that contain emotions and help through processes of elaboration in those who suffer; words that encourage educators and social workers in their crucial labour of identifying situations dangerous to human right, looking to transform those complicated processes that generate them; words that define public policies, plans, social projects that identify and respond by restoring rights; words that sanction those who violent by looking for a way to mediate the conflict based on reassuring answers from social education; words that arrive on time to question conduct patterns that have been learned from generations, to prevent attacks on human rights, which are mostly about objectifying the other, not being able to feel fundamental empathy that makes suffering in others visible.
The situations of aggression between equals in the school system or institutions may happen frequently. Bullying is a special kind of aggression that stands out due to the intentionality of causing damage and its frequency through time.
It’s been defined as a cruel and continuous conduct that includes different types of violence and bad treatment (verbal, moral, physical. This behavior looks to submit and terrorize those who are bullied. Sometimes, there are established implicit pacts of silence so that the one who is being bullied can’t call for help.
On every level, the integral protection system must act by looking to rebuild the safety net, making sure both parts are being taken into account.
To question the way in which we bond, to question some cultural naturalized behaviors will be key to prevent this and will promote healthy relationships between children and adolescents.
Last, we shall remember that schooling institutes are important for the identification of vulnerable human rights in children, so, from different sections or social actors, we should protect, and shield them, and we should strengthen schools answers to protect and reassure the exercise of human right for children and adolescents.
