The Inter-American Institute for Children and Adolescents celebrates its 95th anniversary

The Inter-American Institute for Children and Adolescents (IIN), a specialized agency for children of the Organization of American States (OAS), will celebrate 95 years since its foundation on June 9 in a face-to-face ceremony that will take place at the Athenaeum from Montevideo.

Since its foundation, the IIN has worked on actions to promote and protect the rights of children and adolescents. The agency’s initiative was to form a center for study, action and dissemination of all issues related to children, taking into account the particularities of the continent.

The IIN joined the OAS in 1949, as a Specialized Organization for the Human Rights of Children and Adolescents, this being the beginning of its consolidation process as a technical reference at the regional level.

Since then, the institution has assisted States in the development of public policies, contributing to their design and implementation from the perspective of promoting, protecting and respecting the rights of children and adolescents in the region.

The ceremony on June 9 at 12 pm, the day on which the «Day of Children and Adolescents of the Americas» is also celebrated, will be attended by representatives of the States of the Inter-American System and of the diplomatic corps,  representatives of international organizations and civil society.

In addition, in recognition of the work of the IIN, the Uruguayan Post Office will grant the organization a special postmark with a personalized logo.
