Committee on the Rights of the Child chooses new members

 

In the framework of the 81st session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child held from 13 to 31 May in Geneva, new representatives were elected.

 

On this occasion, the Committee elected four new members and its new bureau chaired by: Luis Ernesto Pedernera (Uruguay), President, while, Velina Todorova (Bulgaria), Renata Winter (Austria), Amal Salman Aldoseri (Bahrain) and Gehad Madi (Egypt) were elected as Vice-Presidents. The following four new members will be part of the Committee composed of 18 independent experts: Bragi Gudbrandsson (Iceland), Philip Jaffé (Switzerland), Faith Marshall-Harris (Barbados) and Aïssatou Sidikou (Nigeria).

 

In accordance with article 16 of the regulations of the CRC, the new members made the corresponding solemn declaration.

 

During this session, the reports of Botswana, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Malta, Singapore and Tonga will be reviewed under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the report of Sri Lanka under the Optional Protocol on the sale of children, child prostitution and the use of children in pornography.
