Care, Nourish, Grow: World Breastfeeding Week 2026

World Breastfeeding Week 2026

Every year, during the first week of August, World Breastfeeding Week is observed as an opportunity to reaffirm that access to adequate nutrition, affection, and protection from the very beginning of life are fundamental pillars of the holistic development of children. Breastfeeding, understood as a human right of both breastfeeding individuals and children, is an essential practice for ensuring the best interests of the child, promoting their physical and cognitive development, strengthening emotional bonds, and contributing to the realization of the right to health.

Key ideas: “Care, nourish, grow: key elements for development. Early childhood, breastfeeding, and the right to live in a family”

This event, part of the Key Ideas 2026 series, will bring together specialists from technical, academic, and government sectors to share evidence, experiences, and good practices from across the region. Throughout the webinar, participants will be encouraged to exchange perspectives on the progress, challenges, and opportunities for strengthening rights-based public policies for early childhood, recognizing care as a right, highlighting the fundamental role of breastfeeding in holistic development, and reaffirming the importance of ensuring that children grow up in protective family environments.
