El Salvador will host the XXIII Pan American Congress and 4th Forum of Children and Adolescents

The Pan American Congress of Children and Adolescents is an instance of dialogue, reflection and communication in which the various levels reached by American countries in the development of their policies towards children and adolescents become visible. This instance, held since 1916, forms one of the three bodies that make up the Inter-American Institute for Children and Adolescents of the OAS (IIN-OAS) and is held every five years. The objective is to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the member states of the Inter-American System.

Ministers, Secretaries of State and other high-level government authorities with powers in matters of childhood and adolescence participate in the Congress; experts in the proposed topics; as well as delegations of children and adolescents.

4th Pan American Forum of Children and Adolescents

Within the framework of the development of the XXIII Pan American Congress of Children and Adolescents during October 21, 22, 23 and 24 in San Salvador (El Salvador), the 4th Forum of children and Adolescents will be held and the 98th Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of the IIN-OAS. The three instances are carried out in conjunction with the National Council for Early Childhood, Children and Adolescence, CONAPINA.

The Children and Adolescents Forums are parallel meetings to the Pan American Congress where the participation of children and adolescents is promoted, through the exercise of their right to express opinions and to be heard by the authorities responsible for the design and implementation of public policies, having a central role in Congress. It is carried out in accordance with the resolution of the IIN´s Directing Council (CD/RES. 07 (83-R/08). Both events constitute the highest level meetings regarding children and adolescents in the Inter-American System.

This is a political and technical event that allows us to analyze the policies implemented by the different governments of each of the Member States of the Organization of American States (OAS), as well as the progress and pending challenges of policies for children and adolescents on the continent.

The themes of the XXIII Congress and 4th Pan American Forum of Children and Adolescents will be mental health, human mobility and early childhood.
