Special bulletin on Violence

We are pleased to inform you that our Special Bulletin on Violence 2011 is available. Within the framework of the IIN Action Plan 2011 – 2015, the theme of violence is addressed in three specific areas: Teenage Criminal Justice, Sexual and Commercial Exploitation and International Child Abduction, in accordance with the agreements reached in the IIN Directing Council Work Group for the purpose of drawing up the Action Plan.

Article 19 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CDN) defines the States inalienable duty to protect children from any form of maltreatment by parents or any other persons in their care, and to establish preventive measures and effective actions on the matter.

However, more than 20 years after the CRC was ratified, such Right to non-violence is far from being a reality for the children in the region. Violence in its various forms is associated with most of the threats and abuse suffered by children throughout the American continent.

Considering this scenario, and in line with its mission, the IIN will continue to issue bulletins to help reflect upon this problem. This bulletin contains articles prepared by our team of specialist on four aspects of the far-reaching, multi-faceted problem of violence and its implications for child rights. We hope you will find it interesting and useful, and will appreciate your submitting your feedback, comments or suggestions to comunicacion@iinoea.org
