Presentation of the IIN Action Plan 2011 – 2015 to the OAS Permanent Council
At the session of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) held on Friday, December 9th, the Vice President of the Directing Council of the IIN and Representative of Panama to the Directing Council, Ms. Gloria Lozano, presented the IIN Action Plan 2011 – 2015.
The session was chaired by the Permanent Council President, Ambassador Bayney R. Karran, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Guyana to the OAS. During the presentation, the Vice President of the IIN Directing Council highlighted the work that the IIN has been developing in recent years, which has allowed it strengthening and positioning as specialized organization in the Region.
Reiterating the commitment of members of the Directing Council, for their work in a dynamic consensus and on specific issues and priorities, following the mandates of the Organization, Ms. Lozano presented the priority lines of work: Early Childhood, Adolescent Criminal Responsibility and Natural Disasters The States of Canada, Colombia, United States of America, Mexico, Paraguay, Dominican Republic and Uruguay requested the use of the word, showing in all cases their approval of the IIN´s Action Plan 2011-2015.
It should be noted that Uruguay highlighted the work that the IIN is doing in relation to the prevention and eradication of Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents and Canada congratulated the Institute’s work around the project «Promotion and Protection of Human Rights of Children and Adolescents in the American System, carried out with funding from the Canadian International Development Agency.
The thematic that Colombia, Mexico, United States of America and Paraguay congratulated the most was the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility, pointing in all interventions, the importance of restorative measures. The intervention of the IIN during the session, ended with the Permanent Council resolution of taking note of the Action Plan, wishing to the IIN authorities success in implementing such an ambitious and well-developed Action Plan, and the gratitude to the Vice President of the Directing Council of the IIN and its Director General for their intervention.
