Caribbean Virtual Forum on Child Participation
The Inter-American Children´s Institute, in collaboration the Open Campus of the University of the West Indie, and in coordination with the Government of Brazil, organized a Caribbean Virtual Forum on Child Participation.
The Caribbean Virtual Forum took place simultaneously on various sites of the Open University, on November 18, 2014. These activities were intended to focus the attention of stakeholders across the Caribbean on key issues related to the XXI Pan American Child Congress. The Congress, promoting the exchange of information and experiences on children’s issues in the hemisphere, was held in Brasilia, Brazil on December 10 – 12, 2014, to examine the issue of Violence against Children: Building Peaceful Environments.
The Caribbean Virtual Forum was intended to contribute to the deliberations of the XXI Congress, and focus the attention of a range of stakeholders in the Caribbean (including children and adolescents), contribute to dialogue on the issues of the Conference, and provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and formulate preliminary proposals and recommendations on the central theme of the XXI Congress.
Against this background, this document sets out the objectives, expected results and methodology of the Caribbean Virtual Forum, as well as a draft agenda for its deliberations. Achieving the objectives:
- To foster the leadership skills of children and adolescents.
- To disseminate information on the issue of violence against children and adolescents, as well as information on the different manifestations of violence against children and adolescents in member states of the Organization of American States
