89th Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of Inter-American Children’s Institute (IIN)
On December 9, 2014 in Brasilia, Brazil, the 89th Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of Inter-American Children’s Institute (IIN), was performed. Before the inauguration of the XXI Pan American Child Congress and Adolescents; with the participation of 26 representatives of delegations Member States of the OAS*.
At the head table were the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, His Excellency, Ambassador Albert Ramdin; Ms Zaira Navas, representative of El Salvador and President of the Directing Council of IIN-OAS; Mr Daniel Cento, representative of the United States of America and Vice-President of the Directing Council of the IIN; Ms Angélica Goulart, representative of the Federative Republic of Brazil; and Ms María de los Dolores Aguilar, Director General of IIN-OAS.
During that meeting, the Director General of IIN-OAS, presented the final report two periods: 2007-2011, the Action Plan for which was adopted in Cartagena at the 82nd Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of the IIN, and 2011 “2015, the Action Plan for which was adopted in Panama at the 85th Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of the IIN.
In her turn President Zaira Navas and representatives of Member States thanked the Director General for her leadership of the Institute and congratulated the work performed by the IIN technical team.
We also conducted the election of Officers Directing Council for the period 2014-2016, and were elected as President Mrs. Zaira Navas, Representative of El Salvador and as Vice President to Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis, Representative of Saint Lucia. As well as, the election to designate the candidates for the post of DG as indicated by the regulations. The two applications approved and submitted in a timely manner, were Mrs. Carmen Silveira de Oliveira (Brazil) and Mr. Víctor Giorgi (Uruguay); the first was supported by 15 States and the second by 19. Both names were raised for consideration by the Secretary General for resolution.
