The IIN Presents the Results of the Application of the Work Model for the Promotion of the Right to Identity in Guatemala
As part of the project on the “Promotion and Protection of Children’s Rights in the Inter-American System”, funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the presentation of the results of the application of the work model for the promotion of the right to identity and birth registration, developed by the IIN together with the National Registry of Persons (RENAP), took place last Friday, 28 October, in the city of Guatemala.
The event was attended by the Secretary for Social Welfare of Guatemala and Principal Representative to the Directing Council of the IIN, Ms. Silvia Palomo; the Executive Director of RENAP, Mr. Adolfo Metheu; the OAS Representative in Guatemala, Ms. Milagro Martínez de Torres-Chico; and the IIN’s Director of Areas and Projects, Ms. Paulina Fernández.
The IIN carried out a presentation of the model and of the results of its application in the departments of Jalapa and Chiquimula. In addition, RENAP stated that the model will be replicated in other departments, such as Retalhuleu, and read a declaration of the priority given to the reduction of the under-registration of children, inviting the various organizations present to join the efforts which RENAP will be making with a view to reducing the under-registration of children.
