III Consultative Council Meeting of Project IIN-ACDI

 

In the framework of the Project entitled Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Children and Adolescents in the Inter-American System supported by the financial cooperation of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the III Consultative Council meeting of the Project occurred on September 28, 2011 in the headquarters of the Inter-American Children´s Institute (IIN) in Montevideo, Uruguay.

 

The meeting transpired the day before the 86th Regular Meeting of the Directing Council of the IIN. The Consultative Council is comprised by the participating Member States: Colombia, Guatemala and Jamaica, also by authorities from the Government of Canada, CIDA and the IIN. The Council is committed to meet at least once a year prior to the meeting of the Directing Council, to ensure close cooperation and coordination of the Project, to review work plans, achieved and expected results and to guide the Project as needed.

 

The Council is also expected to maintain an integrated management approach, foster communication and to encourage horizontal communication and cooperation among participating States Officials present at the Consultative Council meeting were: Ms. Margaret Gillis, Principal Delegate of Canada; Ms. Annick Amyot, CIDA representative; Ms. Cathy Hardman, Consul of the Canadian Embassy in Uruguay; Dr. Elvira Forero, Principal Delegate of Colombia and President of the Directing Council on the IIN; Ms. Silvia Palomo, Principal Delegate of Guatemala; Mr. Newton Douglas, Alternate Representative of Jamaica; Ms. Marí­a de los Dolores Aguilar Marmolejo, General Director of the Inter-American Children´s Institute (IIN) and the IIN technical team responsible for Project implementation.

 

The event was the framework for the analysis of the progress of the Project components of Public Policy for Children, Birth Registration and the Right to Identity, Child and Adolescent Participation, and Child Rights and the Media in the three participating States. Based on the dialogue generated by the officials, specific steps forward were defined for the conclusion of the Project and the sustainability of the results achieved.
